In the early seventies they had really mean speed bumps in Northern Ireland. About 6 inches tall, semicircular(not a gentle slope) and set at 45º to the flow of traffic, if you hit them at speed they flipped your car over – really effective.
I understand them, but traffic engineers don’t seem to. Otherwise, why put a 20 MPH speed bump every two blocks on a stretch of road posted 35 MPH. Which do you want to tear up, your shocks, your brakes, or your schedule?
Long ago, my father told me that I need to go slowly over a bump of any kind, in order to save my car’s suspension. I’ve always heeded that advice, unlike my sister, who apparently didn’t listen.

Am surprised that the ‘town’ of ‘Treetops’ hasn’t issued an order banning ’Cosmo’s’ old DeSoto ! ! ! !

But he’s kind of getting it … he’s experiencing the purpose. ….
He just doesn’t understand why they’re called speed bumps.

A speed bump on open highway like shown here would be really destructive. I’ve only ever seen them in places like parking lots.

Dont slow down Texas drivers – that is the reason the armadillo is an endangered species – they look like a speed bump

Coincidence—I read the “Speed Bump” cartoon right after this “Shoe” cartoon.

I swear that a few towns near me just quit patching the holes. Slows drivers down just as well.

George Carlin famously pointed out that we illogically drive on parkways and park on driveways.

A few decades back, Volvo demonstrated an active suspension. It could detect speed bumps and lift the wheels over them.
