Dog-loving humans waiting for their own pets to arrive will be busy giving tummy rubs and throwing balls to keep you amused, Rover. Or God will send you back down to be a guardian spirit for your bestest human.

When this wonderful sad-sweet cartoon appeared three years ago, Brian Basset added his own comment towards the end. He apologised to the readers who found it too sad and explained that he was commenting on his own love for his childhood pet.

Rover, you’re making my eyes water, again…

Once you cross the Rainbow Bridge, Rover, you’ll be cared for by angels until Red joins you. Then, there will be a portion of Heaven just for you!!

Oh my goodness. That sure turned on the water faucet in my eyes.

Time is different in heaven, Rover! You won’t have to wait long! Just a theory of mine. No proof involved, lol! I have a special feeling for children and animals and kind of wish I hadn’t read this one. Brian, get back to the fun Summer antics!

OMG, my Rugby is in ICU in Concord NH. This one hurts!

This brought tears to my eyes. I know we usually outlive our pets, but it still hurts to be reminded of the reality.

it won’t seem like that long

I console myself with the fact that dogs have shorter lives so we can love more of them. It helps, but I miss every pet I ever had. Even the cat that used to jump off the top of the refrigerator and be unable to really get purchase on my skin and would leave claw marks all the way down me. (She did it when I was doing dishes and had no free hands to grab her.)

A bit too sad for me

Awe makes me think of my babies that have passed, I miss them greatly, but hope they are having a good time with no health issues and are happy. Thank you for reminding me how much our dogs love us and miss us when they are gone.

I have had several Border Collies and currently have three, the oldest oof which turned 16 this month. I lost her mom 8 years ago at a ripe old age, and miss her dearly. I dread when Rascal passes. :-(

Deep thoughts today between a Boy and his Dog.

Let’s not talk about when Rover crosses the Rainbow Bridge. Red will be so devastated. His whole life is wrapped up in that dog.

I lost my dog about 60 years ago. I still cry for her.

Dang you! Men from my generation don’t cry and this isn’t helping!

Outside of reality here, but just had a tropical fish die this week. I had him in the tank for over 13 years! Probably no rainbow bridge for wet pets!

It seems barefoot season has started.

I would comment but I have melted into a giant puddle!!!

I guess I was the only one thinking: “Rover, just push Red in head first, and he’ll be waiting for you?”

Sorry, been a bad few years for me. Ever since my own Rover – aka Ms Tracie – passed away.

OMG! A punch n the reality Gonads! Wait, if only there was a heaven. Oh, there must be, Brad Paisley and Andy Griffith said it was there, and they are waiting on a woman to get there.

OK, I teared up at this. I remember a quote from Will Rodgers: “If dogs don’t go to heaven, then when I die, I want to go where they went.”
