My late loving wife and I cared for her Mother who had dementia. They used to watch all of the movies that interested them. Every once and awhile, my loving wife would say to her Mother that they needed to allow me to watch a “Daddy” movie and they would let me watch something I liked. They are both gone now and I can watch whatever I want, It isn’t the same anymore.
Husband gave in to himself and bought a (relatively small) big screen TV as he decided “we will never go to the movies again” as the theater we used to go to (has real movie seats not those awful lounge seats – terribly uncomfortable and an invitation to bed bugs to live in) will never reopen (everything still says “temporarily closed” and they are paying for their website and telephone so I figure they do plan to reopen).
What I want is a movie which is not so bright that no matter how much he cuts down the brightness I still need to wear sunglasses to be able to watch it and no matter how he tries to adjust the sound it is too loud for me so I have to wear ear plugs. We found the only chair in the house which I can sit in and have my feet touch the ground (can’t use the sofa as it has to be like the movies) – we never checked to see if the chair was at all comfortable – not so much so.
He had decorated (curated?) our living room to be in colonial revival (looks like 18th century) as we are reenactors of that period. Other than from mid December to mid January when the Christmas decorations are out – nothing inappropriate has ever been allowed in the room (and other than that same period it serves as his “loom room” for his weaving). To be able to have this TV in the room we had to go to Ikea and buy a 5 ft table – very Scandinavian modern – to put the TV on. The table sits on and over a wedding chest like piece of furniture he had made (looks like same – but instead of top lifting, the front comes down and 3 drawers pull out to hold DVDs). What a waste of such a lovely piece of furniture he made!

Father and son, bonding over monster movies. I’ve heard worse plans.

I’m with Clayton, monster movies>rom-coms. And I’d go with “Oozing Swampfreaks” for tonight’s feature.

How about a mash up? I heard rumors that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is pretty good.
