Aaaaand, just like that…. Michael’s hopes for summer romance get crushed….. of course, the guy could be her brother or something… Not necessarily her boyfriend..
Nothing like that sinking feeling when you realize the dream is over. Pop! The bubble of excitement and anticipation is gone. Even if you’re wrong and things work out, the bubble is gone.
I think it was pretty clear who Rhetta is interested in and she let him know it right away. Her ‘come on’ was clear to me. And yes, I know the strip is almost 30 years old but it is still a hoot.I watch again old movies I love, I read again old books I cherish. This comic to me is no different. Thanks Lynn for bringing it back!
We talked about name tags yesterday and so I paid a bit of attention to the appearance of or exclusion of the tags. There is really no consistence to the appearance of the tags — they seem to come and go at the artist’s whim, which makes me think Lynn didn’t find them important or that they lent nothing to the story. Like shirt buttons. This my opinion, of course.

Wait, Mike….By his behavior and words which are very casual and familiar, he behaves more like a brother than a boyfriend.

Oh, some dude got to Rhetta before Michael did. Let the jealously of Mike commence.

Well at least you didn’t ask and then be embarrassed when she turned you down.

That’s my common bad luck too when I see a pretty girl I’d like to ask out. Some more handsome dude always beats me by 30 seconds! Oh well.

I was alright for a while
I could smile for a while
But I saw you last night, you held my hand so tight
As you stopped to say, “Hello”
Oh, you wished me well, you couldn’t tell
That I’d been crying over you
Crying over you
Then you said, “So long”
Left me standing all alone
Alone and crying
Crying
Crying
Crying
It’s hard to understand
But the touch of your hand
Can start me crying
I thought that I was over you
But it’s true, so true
I love you even more than I did before
But darling, what can I do?
For you don’t love me
And I’ll always be
Crying over you
Crying over you
Yes, now you’re gone
And from this moment on
I’ll be crying
Crying
Crying
Crying
Yeah, crying
Crying
Over you

SO|POILER ALERT! Do not read if you don’t want to know.
Never let family get in the way of a good romance.

Pretty sure he is her brother. He looks a lot like her. I don’t remember from when this strip originally ran.
