Dogs don’t wish us to act like dogs. They only ask that we understand their behavior as dogs. Sniffing, exploring (up to a point, for their safety,) rolling in stinky stuff, eating new grass, and much more are natural behaviors for dogs. Accept and/or redirect if you must, but don’t scold.
I adopted two adult cats and one senior cat (and one foster fail). I gave them the best lives I could, giving them second (or third) chances at happiness. They were all grateful and loving.
