I do not rely on any one form of communication. Sometimes a text message is best (though I tend to pick them up late), sometimes email (yes, people still use it), sometimes a phone call and sometimes, get this, a personal visit.
My coworkers are shocked that I leave my phone in the house when I’m gardening. I’m too busy/dirty to deal with it then, it’ll fall out of a pocket and I’ll end up burying it somewhere. I grew up without cell phones. I drove long distances to places I’d never been before without GPS (only fold up maps, and sometimes not even that). I’ve called people person to person at a phone booth (boyfriend was camping and the booth had the only phone he could use). We had an early ‘group chat’ available called a party line and the teens in my moms house had to wait till the little old ladies on the line had finished discussing their soap operas for the day.All these constant contact devices have gotten out of control.Take control back and turn them all off once in awhile.
I never understood why people will text someone with a message that says “Call Me.” When I get a text like that I call them and leave a voice message that says, “Text Me.”
I’m with you 110%, Aunty – I loathe, abhor, despise, detest, & abominate talking on the phone, but I have running text convos going on with a half dozen friends & family members!
it’s kind of dumb to expect everyone in the world to march to your particular beat (as if everyone in the world would be familiar with your unique preferences)…
that said, that our ISP sends all information by text messages, which are nearly impossible to save, and is to all intents and purposes impossible to reach by phone if you have questions that you can’t find the answer to is so, so 21st century…
