I can afford a nice car and good clothes. I don’t need them.
I know that my wife and I are bad Americans since we are poor consumers. We tend to buy only what we need and, while it has to be quality, does not have to be the latest and greatest.
Then again, maybe by not buying new things now, we’re good Americans by not contributing to inflation.
There is another reason I do not wear “nice clothes.”
I have a whole wardrobe of "nice clothes’ (including three suits) that are remnants of an era when I worked in an office that had a dress code that required them.
These are my “Sunday Best” and when I attend the rich white church downtown, they are what I wear. However for the past several years, my wife and I have been attending a church that even has homeless people attending. I have no doubt that my wife and I are the richest members (financially) of the congregation.
I still dress nicely, but I don’t dress up, because I want to be accepted by my new peers. They are very interesting people.
Oh, gawd. . .who listens to “those people” anymore??? Oh, yeah, fergot, social media and “personalities”. . .deah me, I guess the latest is that Prince Charles is dithering over whether to let Harry and Megan come to his coronation. . .now won’t THAT decision wreck my daily life. . .NOT!!!!!
Amen! Our car is a 2007 sedan that is easy for me to get in and out, with room in the trunk for my wheelchair and more. My clothes are always on sale, and not trendy, but classic. Same for hubby. We get what looks presentable, not what’s hot. After all, the cats don’t care.
