Lightning Bug’s can’t eat. They have no mouth to eat with. They only emerge as flying bugs to have a little sex, and make baby bugs, (eggs). Then they die. They will spend several months to a year, (depending on sub-spices), as larvae. And then change into flying lightning bugs for just a few day to few weeks.
We are seeing a lot of fireflies around our area now. There were many drifting over the church lawn tonight. Less insecticide = more useful and/or pretty bugs.
Aw, I’m not in favor of this sort of trickery if done too seriously, but with a wink and a nudge, it’s fun to introduce a child to the world of imagination.
