Yesterday, I mentioned that James Bond appeared in a comic strip in the Daily Express and that Bond watches Sean Connery in The Untouchables in one of John Gardner’s novels. Someone asked me if I know why the books by Gardner and other authors have not been adapted to the screen.
I do not know why. I do know that Sean Connery mentioned that he’d like to return to the character of Bond in the early 1980s and it was suggested that he may appear in an adaption of Gardner’s first Bond book Licience Renewed. That didn’t happen but Connery did play an older Bond in Never Say Never Again which was based on the same screenplay that Fleming’s novel Thunderball was based on. Fleming had written a screenplay for an unproduced movie about Bond in 1959then used it as the basis for the novel Thunderball which was published in 1961 and released as a movie in 1965.
I do not know why none of John Gardner’s Bond novels were adapted for the screen but I do know that Gardner and his successor Raymond Benson produced novelisations of later Bond movies. I suppose that EON Productions have a major say in the copyright of Bond and do not want to pay for new adaptions when they can create their own stories about him.
I’m getting this same story from my friends who operate my favorite brewpub. Not only have the prices of grain and hops gone up but the delivery charges have risen skyward too. And so, the price of our liquid bread is also rising!!
Hey, Affie. We missed you yesterday. Don’t scare us like that again! You hear me? Haha.
Tomorrow I’m going to the city and on the way back I’m stopping off at another town to make the most of my Day Ticket. But this time I’m going to actually check to see if the trains are running! I didn’t go out anywhere today. I had a lovely relaxing day in. The library closes at 5pm on a Friday so I generally don’t tend to go on that day. Or at the weekend.
When I’m there, I enjoy having a nice cup of tea and sometimes a chocolate brownie at the cafe. I have a stamp card and once I get 9 stamps, I get a free hot drink. I believe I’ve got 6 so far.
Stay safe, stay well, stay cool and stay happy, pal. See you after the weekend!
Take it like the man you are Andy. Just drink one less pint a day. Back when I started smoking cigarettes (N.C. carton was $1.50) I said when price got to 25 cents a pack I am going to stop. Them 50 cents, dollar a pack and then 2 dollars a pack in 1994 and I stopped after 35 years. Thankfully. Carton Marlboro now over $70 with tax and over $140 I am told in New York and other states. I smoked 3 cartons a week and my wife let me know it day and night and stopped cold turkey. 28 years now. Woo the hoo.

What heavy drinker can afford to drink at a bar? Even cheap domestic beer is $5 around here, martinis or Manhattans are $15 or more. I drink at home.

Ok I know it’s a cartoon but why do people put up with him, especially Flo and Chalkie?
