I don’t really get it, unless it’s a film set? The miner is so immersed in his role it has become real life to him so the real life medical staff makes no sense to him. Sort of like the Three Amigos protagonists in the Mexican village playing, and then becoming, heroes… No, I don’t get it.
I rarely understand a Bliss/Martin cartoon. Where is the prospector’s right boot? Did the snake bite him because he was wearing only one boot? Is it important that the doctor’s name is Durango (a town in Colorado), and if so, why? What are hospital doctors (apparently not EMTs) doing out in the mountains? And why hasn’t that pick fallen out of the burro’s pack?
Excellent artwork as always, Mr Bliss. Unfortunately that’s all I get out of this one. Can you please publish an explanation? It seems a lot of us didn’t get this one. Normally, when some folks don’t get it, others do and they explain it. Not so today. Nobody can explain it. Could you please do so?
Back in the fifties there was a radio western called Dr. Sixgun, a small-town doctor in a fictional wild-west town. His name, however, was Matson, not Durango. So I doubt if that’s the reference here.
Yeah I don’t get the reference either. One of the few times I couldn’t get a clue looking at the comments too.And his friend could use some help with that snake bite, seems a bit rattled.

That’s what he gets for wearing one boot.

They might want to run that past the victim. He looks like he might really appreciate medical intervention.

I couldn’t find any reference to Dr. Durango and snake bites. I’m lost too. Which of them is supposed to be Dr. Durango?

We could use more snakes that bite once and leave. Or not bite at all, of course.

There’s a subspecies of rattlesnake called the Durango rock rattlesnake.
Or, the joke could just be the absurdity of physicians being there in the first place.

Just take him to Lucy Langford’s House of Blue Mirrors. I’m sure her girls have fixed many a snake bite.
