    When our dogsitter would take them out to her ranch, she got worried about them losing weight. “Are they eating?” asked my wife. “Yes.” “Then don’t worry. They’re just getting more exercise than at home.” At home they had about a 75’ yard to run back and forth in. At the ranch, she’s let them run free when she went to get the mail at the far end of the driveway, maybe half a mile. They’d run ahead, run back to her, run ahead, run back …

    There is an interesting little book titled “Real Boys.” It was written by Dr. William Pollack, who was the head of adolescent psychology at McLean Hospital in 1998. In it, Dr. Pollack posits that boys communicate more through physical action than girls, whereas girls communicate more through speaking than do boys.
