Growing up we had a reading room – actually we had 3 of them, with a 4th one added in the late 1960s. It also served as grooming room and for baths and the reading seat was also used for more personal reasons with its throne. We also called it “daddy’s office”. :-)

I grew up in the middle of a boring suburb, with no place to go to read but the backyard, but that was fine with me.
