Water beds were great. You turned up the heat a little in the winter, and it was just a little cool in warmer weather. You can still buy them in some places. Just have to ask.
I have my heater on 88 in the winter, turn it off in the summer. I have a memory foam mattress on top of the water bed, makes it easier to get out of, and the warmth or coolth seeps up through the mattress. Only problem is that I am used to that much comfort, so sleeping anywhere else is very difficult. Is there actually such a thing as caring what people think more than how comfortable you are?
My original waterbed was wooden side plank edges. Then the softsides were introduced. Man, was that thing great. Not sure why we when we get to be adults we think that waterbeds were no long for us.

I lot of landlords have rules about waterbeds.

Stretching a garden hose from the bedroom to the front door on New Year’s Eve at night when the bed develops a leak did it for me.
