When my dad taught me about cars… in the 60s… all there was under the bonnet was a motor, battery, starter, gear box, alternator, distributor and LOTS of space…

Today I need a degree in IT, computers AND engineering… to explain the workings of the infernal combustion engine… to my grandchildren…

I’d be lucky to find two components under that bonnet… that I could squeeze a fag-paper between…

And your dad, Claire. Don’t forget him.

As one who worked for a short time for a tire company, tires are much better now than they were in Dad’s day.

But she doesn’t have a car yet, does she? Or did I miss that – I know she was looking for one.
