My wife and I went to a restaurant we patronize once a month or so. At the end of the meal, we were served a couple of nice desserts.
Me: “Ma’am, we didn’t order these.”
Server #1: “Nor are you being charged for them. A few weeks ago, you two were in while I was having a really lousy day. You were polite and left a great tip. These treats are on me! Thanks!”
On another occasion, my dad took a large group out to a really nice restaurant. When he asked for the check, the server brought it on a tray with a snifter of Brandy sitting atop. Dad gave the server a quizzical look.
Server #2: “Sir, if I got a bill of that size, I’d want a drink — just thought I’d save you from asking.”
In both cases, outstanding service was well rewarded. It pays to be nice.
