Elections are already rigged — in favor of Republicans. Gerrymandering in the red states and the GOP’s advantage in the Electoral College requires Democrats to overcome about a five to seven percentage point disadvantage just to claw back to even. That’s why Dem voters need to show as much interest in midterm and off-year elections as Republicans do.

When I saw the first frame, I was expecting a Twitter shot as well. Would probably be the only somewhat accurate statement in the entire ad.

I wish I could believe he was wrong, but then I listen to a Trumplican or Qanon giving “reasons” and it’s hard to believe it isn’t too late. How quickly we forget the riots and violence and cries of illegitimacy when the other party didn’t like the results in 2016. Fact is, both parties suck. Time to elect someone with fresh ideas.

This would be funny if it wasn’t true. Silly me back in March 2021 I thought every republican who declared he believed the big lie would be laughed out of the primary. Little did I know it would become the litmus test for even running.

If the Supreme Court endorses the independent legislature theory this fall and hands control of elections to the state legislatures this fall, it won’t matter who the voters choose in 2024. State legislatures – most of which are controlled by Republicans – will simply choose Republican electors to send to congress to cast the votes. That’s the big danger.

How does the conservative GOP not see the madness of running for office on the basis of elections being easily rigged in a manner that lives no clues behind, except a lingering gullibility?

There are many factors that led to the Trump phenomenon. But one, not often discussed, in the inability of our democracy to address problems like climate change timely. Although checks and balances are essential to our system, the checks, like the many tactics used by Mitch McConnell to delay popular legislation have grown out of proportion. An democracy, such as that that immediately followed the 2017 Russian Revolution, is vulnerable to tyranny (the Bolshevik overthrow) when it cannot address problems efficiently.

It’s too bad he doesn’t do any cartoons about China Biden, maybe it’s because he would have too much material. No doubt he thinks China Biden is doing a wonderful job.

If the elections weren’t rigged I would have served 2 terms as president in the 80s. I beat Reagan twice. Also beat him in the gubernatorial elections twice.

The biggest mistake the US ever made was not taking every member of the Confederate "national government, every one of the their state counterparts, and, at a minimum, every general officer in the treasonous army, and hung them for treason within a month of the insurrection being put down.

The second biggest was not opening fire with every weapon available to defend the Capital the second the first MAGAT pushed the first cop Jan. 6, ’21.

I’ve been telling all my GOP friends that with the new laws that ‘increase’ voting security that they are guaranteed to win the election. So much so that they should not even bother to vote because their vote is not needed to win.

I understand that some Republican officials are refusing to certify the results of the primary elections, so the practice rounds are already under way. They will be in condition to claim that the general elections are fraudulent by November. It’s good to prepare early.

For nearly a century after Reconstruction (1865–1877), the majority of the white South identified with the Democratic Party. Republicans during this time would only control parts of the mountains districts in southern Appalachia and competed for statewide office in the former border states. Before 1948, Southern Democrats believed that their stance on states’ rights and appreciation of traditional southern values, was the defender of the southern way of life. Southern Democrats warned against designs on the part of northern liberals, Republicans (including Southern Republicans), and civil rights activists, whom they denounced as “outside agitators”.

The adoption of the first civil rights plank by the 1948 convention and President Truman’s Executive Order 9981, which provided for equal treatment and opportunity for African-American military service members, divided the Democratic party’s northern and southern wings. In 1952, the Democratic Party named John Sparkman, a moderate Senator from Alabama, as their vice presidential candidate with the hope of building party loyalty in the South. By the late 1950s, the national Democratic Party again began to embrace the Civil Rights Movement, and the old argument that Southern whites had to vote for Democrats to protect segregation grew weaker. These populist governors appealed to a less-educated, working-class electorate, that favored the Democratic Party, but also supported segregation. After the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case that outlawed segregation in schools in 1954, integration caused enormous controversy in the white South. For this reason, compliance was very slow and was the subject of violent resistance in some areas.

The Democratic Party no longer acted as the champion of segregation. Newly-enfranchised African American voters began supporting Democratic candidates at the 80-90-percent levels, producing Democratic leaders such as Julian Bond and John Lewis of Georgia, and Barbara Jordan of Texas.

Many white southerners switched to the Republican Party during the 1960s, most for reasons unrelated to race. The majority of white southerners shared conservative positions on taxes, moral values, and national security. The Democratic Party had increasingly liberal positions rejected by these voters. In addition, the younger generations, who were politically conservative but wealthier and less attached to the Democratic Party, replaced the older generations who remained loyal to the party. The shift to the Republican Party took place slowly and gradually over almost a century.
