My employer had a policy of paying all our vacation time, and 1/3 of our sick time when leaving for over 30 yrs. Suddenly about 5 yrs ago decided to stop paying sick time. I was “told” I was grandfathered into the old policy, but, surprisingly there wasn’t any record of it when I retired, and I lost over 2000 hrs of sick time.
When I worked retail, I wasn’t sick often, but I did use some sick days for “Mental Health” days. Whew….Sure need it when you work retail. I would call in and say I am not feeling well, which wasn’t a lie.

My work place would pay you for unused personal days, but not vacation days.
