Today’s strip reminds me of an episode of the 1970s Fred Basset TV show. Fred’s owners went out and Fred was soon missing them. He looked at the clock. Instead of seeing that they had only been gone five minutes, he exclaimed “Twenty-four hours and five minutes!”
Phew, someone’s taking a hit, here! Fred was probably happy to take the walk to the store, and in their town, it’s probably perfectly safe to leave him outside (not that I would). It’s been around 3 minutes she’s been in there. Lookit how small the basket is! (ducks…)
In smaller towns and villages in Great Britain, where most people know one another, many would walk their dogs to the shops and leave them outside while they bought a few things. The Fred strip began in 1963 and still has the look and feel of older times.

If the store won’t let, Fred in. Then Dear you should have left him at home. My opinion never leave a dog tied up outside a store.
