You didn’t ask Terry if Byrd came by to deliver the tickets in person or sent someone to deliver them or what. You can’t assume he mailed them to you. Why didn’t he or his messenger stop in to Mr. Walt’s house to bring them to you? I hate to say it but I do think you’re in for a surprise Gertie, not necessarily a pleasant one.
Not Norman, we know how you feel so you don’t have to say it every day hmmm?
I’ve seen this sort of scenario time and time again. If it doesn’t play out that Earl has moved on because Gertie only showed an interest in him after he became famous (remember, when she thought he was just a dishwasher, she didn’t want anything to do with him), I would be utterly amazed.
Earl sent a limo for her . She had gone early and missed the surprise .
Smitten then , smitten now . I’m hoping hard for true love to win one in a row .
In this world of hate and get-even .
BlitzMcD, you must have missed the strips where she tried to tell him she did want to marry him, but he had already left. That was before he made it big.

Ah, hope springs eternal, and yet one senses that uppance is coming.

Don’t look up, Gertie … you’ll see the 10-Ton Weight over your head, plummeting fast …

I thought Walt was with Gertie.

I’ll bet Walt got the tickets and forgot about them.

Why would he send tickets to a woman who rejected his marriage proposal? Gertie, remember he doesn’t know yet that you do love him after all.

Comeuppance indeed, as several others have said.

I have a feeling it’s Terry who was the inspiration. Maybe he’s going after her?

I like the way you think!
And in case I haven’t said so recently enough, God, I love the secondary characters!

Thanks, NotNorman. You’re right. I did not miss the strips, StringMusician. Gertie’s overtures were merely “too little, too late”.
