If you replace electronics that are not broken but “too slow” look for charities that may refurbish them and maybe exchange the software with something less demanding. They can then serve for some more years at a place where people can’t afford up-to-date tech.
Who in the world would put an old T.V. console record player up in the attic? The things weighed a ton. Did he think that being up there would slowly make them get more useful?
Some old computers, like some of the first handmade Apples, are worth a mint. Otherwise, toss ’em.
I have my old computer sitting right next to my current one, with a “null modem” cable connecting the 2 network cards. This way I can access the old computer and see it on my current display, sometimes useful for running something under the old XP OS, when also a VM won’t work. One of the ways I used it was an old game I wanted to play would only install the 64-bit version of itself on my current computer, which would not allow me to run the cheat codes that would allow me to get past a couple of the “darned-near-impossible” places in the game. So what I did was install the 32-bit version on the old computer and copied the files over to the 64-bit PC, making sure that any Registry entries were there. It worked! And now, after “7-Zipping” up the files, I can play the game again without going thru the same procedure, although by the time I want to, I’ll probably have a whole new set of problems to overcome… ☺
japan instantly ensured that more old appliances would end up dumped out in the woods when it passed a law mandating fees for recycling old appliances. we pass one of those locations, marked with a prominent no dumping sign, when we take our trash to the clean center…

Now, that’s ridiculous! Who would hang on to their old computers? I certainly never would!
Of course, there are two right here next to me.
And two more over by the window.
And maybe two or three (or more) out in the shed. But that’s all!
Besides, I’m going to get rid of them.
