It’s called dumbing down AMERICA! To take away mainstay subjects in the school curriculums is education suicide. They don’t teach many subjects anymore. It’s disgusting. And the subjects they DO teach is just skimmed and not delved into. Common Core is dumbing down AMERICA…..
People can’t even read and write their own name let alone a letter, thank you note, (what’s that? ).I blame the parents and schools for not educating the kids with basic skills and teaching them manners, respect, compassion, responsibilities etc. America, our country, is as ignorant as they come and getting worse…..
I can’t remember the last time I wrote anything in cursive, aside from my signature. It’s a waste of time teaching that today, things change. They don’t teach people how to wash their clothes by beating them on a rock anymore either.
I started teaching about the time cursive left the curriculum. The main complaint seemed to be( and this has to be read aloud in a really whiny voice), “It’s so haaarrrrdd!” And that seemed to be the cry from students about learning in general, too, “It’s so haaarrrrdd!” I taught English and was called out the administrators for requiring my students to memorize a poem(it had to be at least 14 lines)of their choice and recite it in front of the class. Principal: “That seems awful hard.” Me: “You taught science and required students to memorize the Periodic Table.” P: “That’s different.”
My cursive used to be very good. Then, as I used the computer more and more, my cursive got worse. Nowadays, I print so that people can read what I’ve said.
I was always fanatical about making my “official” hand writing legible - single line thru any changes, with date and initials, corrected reports reported as such with reference to original report (thank god rarely needed) -- always leave an accurate paper trail — if nothing else, drives the lawyers crazy

Cursive – from the verb to curse. What you do when trying to read some people’s (most notably doctors) cursive writing.

First tour my folks asked me to write more often, so I did. They then asked me to print, they then bought me a typewriter.

I remember painstaking learning how to write cursive (with ruled paper) as a grad school student.
Then in high school, since we did not have word processing most of our papers were hand written and some of them typed.
Then I got to engineering college and I was back to printing in pencil like I was taught in kindergarten.

I haven’t seen a hand written script in over 15 years. It’s all been over the internet directly to a pharmacy.

Those of us who DO know how to write in cursive can often have a neat little side business addressing wedding invitations.

When the schools start accepting papers written in texting abbreviations, civilization as we know it is finished.

If all they learn is printing, do they print their signature?

Funny about a person’s handwriting, you may not usually be able to read it, but you’ll notice anytime it is a request for money it is neatly written.
