Blackout is a property of the fabric that makes it opaque, not the fabrics color. Plus the blackout fabric is usually the lining fabric that faces the window, the designer fabric is the fabric that faces the room.
Never had black out curtains because it wouldn’t have mattered. I’ve pretty much either had kids or pets that require attention upon their demand. No sleeping in for the care giver.
They keep the heat out when it’s too hot in the shade you can litterally cool your home by closing the windows and curtains. I need a fan that I can push the hot air outside because I don’t have an AC, yet.
