Colette will occasionally pick up small sticks and bring them to me. She likes me to tease her with them while she practices bites and strikes. I have tried throwing them. However, she has a definite response: the first time she brings it back, the second time halfway back, the third time one-quarter of the way back … It was amazing that my cat intuitively understood one of Zeno’s paradoxes … or she was teaching me to fetch. :)
Nimitz used to fetch rattle-mice and drop them in my hand so I could throw them. He’d chase them, grab and disembowel them, then pick them up and bring them to us so we could throw them again.
