If the Rev is so much into spreading around the faith, why did he make known the “these days, I’d rather not keep the faith”. This might sound to the young man like a derogatory statement, a come-back-at-you remark. He should’ve kept the whole remark to himself unless he also broadcast his desire to spread his faith around.

As long as you stop when someone tells you they are not interested, it’s fine IMO. If you continue, after being told no, then you are being an AH.
