A few years ago, I volunteered as a member of our local trails maintenance group – easy peasy – I did my morning walk with a hand pruner to keep the blackberry branches (and their stickers) away from the trail, and I also carried wee plastic dog waste bags to refill the distribution boxes along the trails. Still, some dog owners refused to pick up their pet’s waste, and some of the joggers looked like they were playing hopscotch in avoidance thereof.
Frustrated, I started carrying a bit of chalk for the part of the trail that was on a macadam surface – circling the dog droppings with an arrow and the saying: “Beware the Arrogant Dog Owners’ Brains”.
Irresponsible dog owners are the worst, refusing to scoop the pooop (at least in places where it’s the law). Second worst are those who bag it then hang it on trees expecting others to dispose of it for them. What’s with that?!
Nearly all neighbors around me have dogs. One lady takes her dog across the street to the neighbor’s yard (who doesn’t have a pet) to have the dog do it’s business. She picks it up, but … Why? Another walks his sad-looking dog the same route twice per day. The others have multiple big dogs with small yards or the dogs are inside all day. This city has a leash law, but more and more dogs are loose and not on leashes. Piles of dog crap all along (and often on) the hike-and-bike paths. Sheesh. Too many dogs.

Unleash the offended howls of people complaining that artists aren’t held to the same word choice standards as the commenters are.

I was reprimanded, so I quit.
I bought a treadmill.

The stores must be feeding the dogs, too. I’ve never seen any dogs do so much $#!* during one walk.
