Math was my worst subject in school, and I thought I would never use it again thereafter. But then I stumbled into a job that had practical use for not only algebra, but geometry and trigonometry, too. I went back to my hated high school math books and extracted useful info and formulas from them. With the aid of my trig function calculator I used it for myself and shared it with others.
Suddenly, my co-workers considered me “The Math Professor.” I convinced my company to buy a hand-held calculator for each employee, and most made good use of them. It was very satisfying to all of us. If only such calculators had been available when I was younger!
I use simple algebraic methods fairly frequently in real life. Geometry was my best math related subject in school, and the one that I actually enjoyed. But I seldom use it now.
If I were a cartoonist who wanted to insert some equations into a strip, I’d be sure to put in some deliberate errors so that readers could write in and correct me.
As a kid I hated algebra and believed I wasn’t good with math. As a grownup I discovered all my math teachers were just rotten at teaching the subject. It doesn’t need to be hard, and it does come in handy – but when the grownups don’t get it, kids are guaranteed not to get it. I still feel like I was robbed.

I love math. My best days at work are when I’m immersed in calculations. I don’t have enough days like that.

My husband thinks math is truth and light.
I know that’s not right.

Does it look like today’s strip is a photo copy of it on paper? Or is that on purpose?
