    Actually, we knew that already, but we wanted to discourage all the other employees from taking vacations. So we waited.

    This happens more than you might think. Then those job duties, such as they are, are spread among several other people. Nobody wins — except the boss who appears to have improved cost efficiency. Attaboy, boss man.

    A similar thing happened to my brother. He trained people on his team to do the important tasks that had to be done during his two-week vacation. When he got back, his boss said, “You’re fired because the place ran just as well without you.”
