That unfortunately happens more than you think. Just hang in there with Dear. Moral support and all. Perhaps hand him the instructions. Maybe there’s a handy little tip in them.

I see ‘Mr. Dear’ hasn’t quite ‘come to grips’ with "DIY’ ! ! ! !

When my husband & I were first married, we had a friend come over to help us put together some of the furniture we got. Every time the directions said anything like, “Lay Piece [A] next to Piece [B]” or “Use Screw ©” we’d be off in gales of laughter. To this day – 37 years later next week – we talk about all the “laying & screwing” we did.

It would help if the shelves were lined up with the holes.

Might the new shelf be the reason for moving the sofa the other day?

The 3 little words that strike fear into the hearts of parents: “Some assembly required”.

I am wondering if the old lighthouse in Bremerhaven will eventually go the same way as Mr. Dears shelf – or if they found some ‘instructions’ how to built it back and refurbish the hole lot?

It seems to be missing its support piece. For cheap bookshelves that tends to be a thin plywood sheet that covers most of the back—it looks unimportant, but it saves the case from collapse.

Hubby, the most patient man ever born, and an excellent maintenance mechanic and putter-togetherer, was sent to the brink of insanity with a bookshelf unit I bought. It was a cheap knock-off of an Ikea. The instructions had helpful things like “part A” and “part B”, but none of the parts were actually labeled! By the time he was finished, he was sweating and ready to throw the thing off the balcony. The next bookshelf I bought was already assembled, LOL!

The husband was supposed to turn the screws on the right side. (Righty, tighty; lefty, loosey.)

You can’t blame him. The instructions were probably in Swedish!
