A few years ago, I was all a-twitter, expecting a new gentleman caller. A male friend of mine told me not to spend much time cleaning my apartment since “men don’t care about things like that”. My friend, my new friend, and I were all in our late 60s. Some things never change!
I have never been a whiz at house keeping and neither of my two kids are. I live with my son in his house — he pays the bills and lets me live here for free. We all have many good qualities so who gives three hoots and a holler if aren’t neat?
Imagine if there was a strip where Elly looks pleased with a clean tidy bedroom, then looks in surprise to see Michael with greasy, unkempt hair, dirty clothes, unwashed skin, and a cloud of dirt that follows him wherever he goes.

My brother was a slob growing up. But when he got his own place it was spotless. There is still hope.
