I was fishing in a channel and thought I caught a big one. I had, it was the guy across the channel. Our lines got tangled, LOL! I let him untangle them.
When we were kids, we’d sometimes go fishing without bait but were always able to find bugs or dig a few worms near the water. If all else failed there were usually a few lures in our tackle box we could use though we preferred live bait and floats (being lazy kids).
I was lake fishing with my brother-in-law and his brother, and we got into a school of stripers feeding, anything shiny would hook them, I was catching on every cast as so was his brother, but the BIL was getting hits but not catching. He finally got mad and threw his pole down in the boat and the lure fell right by my foot, there was no hook on it. I turned to him and stated the obvious that having a hook on his lure might help. He’ll never live that down.

Where’s it say you need bait to go fishing? Granted, to catch fish you need bait, but just to go fishing, bait can be optional!:-)
