¡No! Anything but the last one! (Will there ever be a biographical film of other Hispanic dictators Hugo Chávez of Venezuela, Francisco Franco of Spain, and/or Juan Perón of Argentina?)

For Batgirl, there’s reason to suspect that the whole thing was turning into a fiasco behind the scenes given its high price tag, a number of rumored plot points, and its relation to the controversial Flash movie that would feature Ezra Miller. It’s likely that the decision was made to eat the cost rather than risk a proper release.

For Supergirl, people rejected the costume design as soon as it came out, to the point of bringing up photos of cosplayers (et al) who they felt did a better job of creating a Supergirl costume. Once this happened, it should have been clear that a key part of the target demographic was not interested.

As Vero said when this came up in the dailies, “As far as I’m concerned, Franco playing Castro is just a white guy playing a white guy.”

Setting his personal life aside, Franco is a good actor. And Fidel’s (illegitimate) daughter, the actual subject of the film, personally approved the choice.

Wait! There’s something appropriate and fitting about casting a Mexican actor as Prince Namor, a pointy-eared merman who lives under the ocean? At least the other characters are humans being portrayed by other humans.
