Being quiet is the last thing you want to do in bear country. You want to make noise so they will keep their distance. When you get quiet, they get curious.
We went on a hike and took a friend’s hunting dog with us.
The dog ranged back and forth across the trail except for one 50 yard stretch where she stuck to the trail and with in a few yards of us.
When we got back I told the dog’s owner about the strange behavior and she said that we were probably near a wild berry patch and the bear that owned it was nearby.

if you decide to scamper away now, make sure the two bears spot each other. That might give them disputes to solve more pressingly.
