Hopefully, there were only crumbs left instead of tonight’s dinner.

My nose wakes me up sometimes, but usually it’s with a sneeze. Sleep sneezing is the worst.

We were on a road trip with our young dog that took us through Austin, Mn., Home of Hormel. All tuckered out from her earlier adventures, she was zonked out cold in the back seat. As we neared the town racing through the cornfields, I watched her nose start going just like the first two panels still sound asleep. She wasn’t even fully awake as she followed her nose to the window. Then all systems clicked in! Eyes shot open, she had woken up in nirvana! Like a kid squealing for ice cream, she was jumping and dancing on the seat, with a whole new bark, “Spam! Spam! Spam!” Alas, the gift shop was closed, so we couldn’t stop to get her a souvenir.

Wow, her nose got her up onto the counter more easily while asleep than she would when awake and trying to use the rest of her body to get up there.

The nose doesn’t know the rules.
