The way I see it is if your little school boy can talk to dad while sitting on dad’s knee, then you still have a couple years before you have to start saving money for college. It is when your boy talks to dad standing up in front at arms length, then you gotta start socking the college money away.

This would be funny if it wasn’t so depressingly true these days.

The company I worked for paid for most of my education, as long as I passed. Of course that was in Canada at a time when education was relatively cheap.

From what I’ve seen collage might not be his thing. Maybe a painter or used car salesman or trucker….

The accelerating cost of education greatly exceeds any interest you receive on your savings.

WAY too many people go to college with the expectation of getting a “good” job upon graduation only to find out they don’t exist. The government should be pushing trade schools, not colleges.

looks like it may never end the way you looking at it. why do you need so many loans anyway, isn’t one loan enough?

I’ve taken lots of higher education in the past, but in truth, while all of it was really quite pleasurable, much of it was unnecessary. The tech job I could’ve been done right out of HS without needing any tech school training. Even my seminary training, while having an M.Div did open many doors for me, I could’ve easily done most of my church positions right out of college. My point is that education should match the job you’re going to do. A college degree might look good on the resume, yet it is not a guarantee that your job performance will be better than that one with no college. And, there are many jobs out there. good jobs that pay very well, that may only require on the job training or a certificate from a tech school program.

I graduated college with about $6,000 in debts. (This was in the early 70’s and while everything was less expensive than today, wages were much lower as well.) It took me a couple of years to pay it off, but I did, I worked two and three jobs to get it done and paid off early.

The whole debt relief thing irks me. First, in my opinion, upper education shouldn’t cost as much as it does. Second, if someone takes out a loan, fine, but remember the borrower entered into a contract to repay that money and has an ethical and moral responsibility to do so. Repaying the loan is an obligation undertaken freely and unless there are circumstances which might make it impossible, i.e, becoming paralyzed or terminally ill or something similar.

I’m guessing I’ll catch a lot of flack over what I’ve said.

Only Brutus Thornapple would neglect to plan for Wilberforce’s College education because he is still paying for his college education.

The thing I always wondered, was how expensive was it for Brutus to attend Clown College anyway?

It doesn’t seem like his college education got him very far… but “educating” hopeful kids is a great business for colleges!

Yes, Brutus has a job and is working hard to pay his debts, so he doesn’t qualify for loan transfer to the tax payer.

We now know he went to college. Hope that he is using his degree. Hope that he got his monies worth from college as he is seemingly in the payoff mode. As he is still paying it off, sounds like he might have gotten a PhD or Juris Doctor. Dr Brutus. I like that…..

Gladys could go to work when Wilberforce is older and use her income to help him through school. Also pay off Brutus’ loans too. Mama can go…
