Yeah. After retiring, I have found that I want projects. Not necessarily important ones, just something with an end point and a chance to critique myself.
There were many years when I preferred being able to say I hadn’t read a classic book to being put on the spot and expected to analyze it intelligently. Now I can read for what I want to get out of a book and not worry whether I measure up to someone else’s standards of percipience.
As a student I always disliked history class. Not terribly applicable to a science oriented student who typically didn’t do well on any tests, science or otherwise. As an older adult, I love reading history, especially around the electrification and inventions like airplanes and rockets. Fascinating, and thankfully no tests. I even take notes and draw timelines for my own understanding. Tests add no value to me.

So she’s the opposite of Caulfield. He reads everything but what he’s assigned to read, she can’t read unless she’s assigned to read.

The way we used to use the word ‘diddling’ around had a vastly different meaning. LOL!

I got the impression she started ready the news and now she wants to go back to avoiding it.

Our computers give us immediate access to all the world’s information, and we mostly use them to watch funny cat videos and argue with strangers.

This is the strip for which the term “running gag” was invented.
