The catch was to not leave them in too long while trying to remove them during commercial break. Also, trying to be sure the oven was turned on while trying to beat the commercials.
Now, the catch is forgetting them until they are cold and dry.
I never had a TV dinner growing up as we had a really big family and they would have cost too much. We also never ate dinner in front of the TV. We did have popcorn or snacks though. However, I am very happy that your wife did something nice for you. She does care in her own UNIQUE way. Glad you could go down memory lane with a smile on your face…..
That actually does sound like quite a treat. Brings back memories of when my parents would get ready to go out to eat, and they would make tv dinners for me and my brother and we would watch Johnny Weissmuller in old Tarzan movies.
I heard of the simple pleasure in life; however, I think a TV Dinner is just a little too simple to get excited about, but hey what ever floats your boat.

And they came on aluminum trays, as I recall, so you couldn’t have heated them in a microwave anyway.

My mom never had a microwave back in my TV dinner days either. I recall loving those Swanson dinners then, but I don’t think much of them now.

Ready in twenty minutes? Good gawd it takes that long! I am so used to nuking my frozen dinners in 5 to 6 minutes on high power.

Did Gladys get around to cleaning out the freezer and find one of those Swanson TV dinners from the 50’s?

Today’s microwave dinners can’t be cooked in the regular oven. Gone are the days of aluminum food trays…

I wonder what Gladys and Wilberforce had for dinner? Is it Brutus’ birthday and this is what he wants?
cuzinron47 about 2 years ago
For a change, an edible meal, assuming it doesn’t turn out to be burnt offering.

Brutus thinking TV dinners are a special treat tells us just how bad Gladys’ cooking really is!

I liked the one with the little taco’s and refried beans.

(meanwhile, in the kitchen, Gladys is polishing off a steak by herself).

Swanson’s were the best. Banquet not so much.

I miss TV dinners in foil pans on the tray in front of the TV. We had a microwave, but they were just better.
