this was the genius of richard thompson, finding the humour in a single word: “memorable”. just try to say that sentence without busting out laughing, i dare you!
Today’s cartoon is brilliant on so many levels. If there were such thing as academy awards for daily cartoons – this one would’ve snagged an Oscar! (Or a “Dill”)
Thank you for explaining all that to us, Alice [who breaks the Fourth Wall in panel 1]. We need to know this kind of background information as we start (sic) the strip afresh.
Plus, we get a bonus early insight into just-past-three-years-old Dill’s thinking (if that’s the correct term for it)….

oh, how we would love to hear your theory, Dill, about the giant chicken

The Petey story and the theory about the giant chicken are not mutually exclusive.

For some unknown reason the Blisshaven sign made me think of Harry Potter and Hogwarts.

But Petey is a giant chicken.

Not unlike The Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, Petey memorialized himself by just using his fingernails.

The motto is right—A little learning, and a lot of mindless talking. And Dill, the chicken crossed the road, not the sidewalk.

I just realized we rebooted again. I forgot that the Sunday with Alice and Petey scrabbling over the comic book was the last strip. Sigh.

It was a good theory, Dill :)

That kid on the crest looks pretty frantic. Is he running from the ceiling clown or gone mad from one too many Timmy Fretwork songs?
