I remember La Rosa and liked him. Godfrey I always hated. Gee, how’d I get so old so fast?

I must be from some weird fringe demographic. I recognize the names, but never saw or heard their performances. And I know these references are before my time as I wasn’t even born until 1970.

I found the few Godfrey shows I heard to be the perfect sleep aid.

Oddly, the one standout memory of each comes from The Greaseman (who Gene probably knows). He used to parody “Eh, Cumpari!” by playing the first two verses and singing over the rest. And he’d occasionally play the “Too Fat Polka” (which Mr Godfrey said he wished he’d never made, even though it was a big hit).

I remember his show. He introduced a lot of new performers on his ‘Talent Scouts’ show. One group I remember was the ’We’re Not’ sisters.

The day after he died, I received a spam phone call with a recorded message that began, “Hello, this is Arthur Godfrey speaking…”

Just read today’s Lola and was thinking how old I am to have lived during the Free Bird reference and that probably kids don’t get it. I get the joke here but I feel better about my ancientness not knowing who Julius was.
