    Know what else happened in the United Kingdom’s 1970s? Decimailisation of the money: away with £sd and to just £d.

    As long as the price of a pint doesn’t go up and pints remain pints and Andy can continue to smooch them, everything is fine in Andy’s world. Except for Guitar Bob, of course.

    No lavender suits today, but there IS a lavender house in panel #1. Does that count??

    I was there when another “Bob” went electric. A buddy and I, on leave from the Army, were at the Newport Folk Festival, in Newport, RI. on the night of July 25th, 1965, when Robert Zimmerman, aka. Bob Dylan caused a near-riot by switching from acoustic to electric guitar and singing “Maggie’s Farm” and “Like A Rolling Stone” with a rock-band accompaniment!!

    Oh, the horror! The inhumanity! The betrayal!

    Even Pete Seager tried to cut the sound system with an axe ( Maybe Andy should try that! )

    The 1970s is a time that divides opinion. Adults remember the economic recession and the strikes. Those of us who were children then have happier memories of the decade through children’s TV, Raleigh bikes, the glorious summer of 1976 and the comics of the era which included the 1960-2000 comic Buster. As has been mentioned before, the character of Buster was inspired by Andy and for two separate periods was billed as “Buster – Son of Andy Capp”.

    Other UK comics I remember from the 1970s include the 1973-4 comic Shiver and Shake, the 1975-6 comic Monster Fun, the 1976-8 comic Krazy, the 1977-9 comic Plug (featuring one of the Bash Street Kids in his own comic strip) and the 1977-80 comic Cheeky Weekly. 1977 also saw the launch of a very successful comic called 2000 AD which is still going and now aimed at nostalgic adults who were kids in the 1970s and ’80s.

    So true to life this strip is today.

    Absolutely snorted at the last panel though. As Albus Dumbledore in Harry Potter said: “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of places. If one only remembers to turn on the light”

    @Afficionado

    Hey, Affie.

    I started my new volunteer job today and it went pretty great. However I was asked to come in later than planned because one of the ladies I was going to call first is unwell. It’s going to be the same next week too.

    Well, I bought a packet of Malteasers today but they were priced £1.35 and not £1.50 like it said on that app I mentioned yesterday. I still tried it though, I took a photo of the receipt and scanned the barcode. Guess what? My payment got approved! Whoo hoo! Should be in my PayPal soon.

    So overall today has been a pretty awesome day. Volunteering went great and I got a free bag of Malteasers.

    Stay safe, stay well, stay cool and stay happy, pal.

    The Count knew it! Guitar Bob’s last name is Zimmerman, I mean, Dylan.

    That would probably be the only good thing in an otherwise dismal situation. Of course, Guitar Bob would probably just switch back to acoustic, so any silver lining would be somewhat negated.
