The artist & writer for Dick Tracy erroneously assumes that most pirates pirate movies and/or music for any sort of monetary gain. We don’t want to pay nor get any money for pirating. We just like to get movies and/or music for free and give others the chance to get them for free as well. I swear, Dick Tracy is so two-dimensional that it is more funny than anything else.

Writing this in 2017, and this storyline is very out of date, since pirates no longer care for physical media, but just distribute files over the Internet. It does seem a bit like a storyline for hire. Still, it’s far from the only time Dick Tracy has exaggerated.

I’m not innocent. Though every film in my shelves has been bought and paid for at legitimate dealers, it has happened that I’ve been searching for something that no one has cared to stock, and my search has led me to some dodgier sites. And there are a lot of them being run for far less altruistic motives than you describe. If you’re not careful, it’s very easy to get infected by malware. And a lot of them are sponsored by ads for porn or fake moneymaking schemes.
