I cannot not get over how heavy my grandkids backpacks are. I told them this is the age of the Internet. All those books should be on-line. Their response was “WE KNOW!”
I remember watching my oldest grandchild leave home for her first day of first grade, all hunched over with her book bag. She was such a short, thin reed of a child, and I felt so sorry for her carrying that load. Fast forward 15 years and she’s a pharmacy student. So have faith. They can do it.
I remember those days, about 10 years ago. Around 4 years ago they started giving them all a new $1500 IPad courtesy of the taxes we pay. Interesting that I own a $200 tablet for my business that I paid for myself and it does everything their IPads do and then some. Manipulation, stupidity, and ‘free’ money sure make interesting choices. OH Yeah – they floated another school bond last year – go figure.
I haven’t had school age kids for quite a number of years and it’s been, of course, longer than that for me. I used to occasionally take a book or two home for homework. I can’t imagine why kids need huge backpacks. What is it that they have to carry back and forth? I had pencils and stuff in school and pencils and stuff at home.
Students only started using backpacks in the 1970’s. When I was in school (60s) you carried your binder/lunch/books. The dorkier students would use a briefcase. It was a hassle if you had a mile walk home.
