Actually, given the virtual instantaneity of a young cat’s transition from sleep to full attack mode, being asleep is nothing to be ashamed of. Cats need to conserve energy whenever they can so they have that energy when it counts.
Two of our cats have brought home desperate stray kittens they found in the woods that would not have otherwise survived. (One had been newly slit open from being spayed, ear clipped, which shows good intentions but outright cruelty because the tiny little beggar was completely helpless and not part of the local population. Years later she is still tiny, our beloved little fur-clown who is not allowed outside.) So cats do save lives.

It’s called “sleep-hunting”. At a military academy, I learned to sleep with my eyes open. You don’t learn much but you don’t get demerits. :) :(
