Had my tonsils removed the day after Christmas when I was 10. Santa had brought me a beautiful blue and white bike, it was after New Year’s before I could ride it. The first time I tried to ride I got dizzy and had to go back in the house and recover for another week.

Why do they have to have Christmas right at the start of winter when you can’t try out your new outdoor toys? Also, I want to give up chocolate for lent, but why is there so much Easter candy in the stores right now?

Growing up in snow-country if we got an outdoor gift for Christmas it was skis or a sled. We weren’t going to see bare pavement until at least the middle of April.

This happened to my brothers. We lived in Michigan and of course there was snow on the ground. They both got bikes for Christmas but my dad said they had to go into the garage until spring. One brother started riding the new bike anyway. Can’t blame him. Spring was a long time in the future.

This was me when I give got a new 10 speed bike for Xmas in high school. It was February before the snow had gone away enough to ride it.
