When I was a kid back in the 1950s, Sloppy Joes were the highlight of the school cafeteria menu! We kids would (figuratively) stand up and cheer when they showed up … and they were NEVER served more than maybe twice a month (bummer!) Having Sloppy Joes every single day would have been lunchtime heaven to us tweens and teens.

I loved the sloppy joes at school when I was Ruthie’s age. I loved the spaghetti too even though my Mom who was Italian made homemade spaghetti.
