You put the ‘A’ within marks. Why? It’s a perfectly good prefix that we still use quite properly every day, from the time we awake to the moment we fall asleep, every time we go across the street and whenever we step aboard a bus. It is not ungrammatical or ignorant. It is good colloquial English.
