I’m confused, I thought she was already a manager. I knew she was under the Store Manager, but what is this promotion exactly? To be fair this place is fictional, and they haven’t established exactly the rank structure, but I sort of figured it Store Manager > Shift Manager > Standard Employee, and you would only have one Store Manager… so what… apparently the rank structure is Store Manager > ??? > Shift Manager > Standard Employee? That’s fine I guess, but it sounds like she’s still just a Shift Manager and they want her to take the night shift.
I’ve been graveyard shift foreman in two heat treating shops. The second time was what convinced me to become a programmer. Less heavy lifting and working in the day time. Much less getting burned. I liked the heat treating wardrobe better but on balance…
Loved working second or third shift all my life. I am not made to get at 6am but am fine working until 6am and going home to breakfast and then to bed. Made extra money as well, plus a lot fewer customers to deal with in the middle of the night – I worked in the Toy dept. of a Walmart, so no kids at 2am. Got so much more done.

I was once offered the overnight shift at a 7-11. I would be in the store all night alone. I didn’t think it would be safe so I didn’t take it.

Take it, what do you have to lose. Besides, you will be away from the managing idiot. Being a shift manager can be fun.
