There is an insect called the Ant Lion that uses this ambush predator tactic. Instead of a mount it has a conical shaped depression. Bugs fall in but they don’t climb back out.
A friend of mine had one in a jar as a “pet.” I don’t know how he kept it fed.
This reminds me of a sketch I saw Red Skelton and Vincent Price do on the Red Skelton show.Price: I’ll bet you I can answer my own question, but you can’t answer your own quesion.Skelton: You’re on. What’s your question?Price: How does a rabbit dig a hole without throwing out any dirt?Skelton: Okay, now answer your question.Price: He starts from the bottom and digs up.Skelton: How did he get to the bottom to begin with?Price: That’s your question; YOU answer it!

I like the last panel – the ant seems to be running home to change his little antpants.

All in the timing, which reminds me of this Golden Oldie:
“Ask me the secret of my success.”
“Okay, what’s the secret — "
“Timing.”
