Henry, I say this with all the wish to see you succeed at this as I may, but you need to slow your roll here. This is a daily comic strip, not a full-length novel, there are only so many subplots and asides people can swallow … and you’ve already seen from the comments how many people just threw up their hands.
As it was, you started with a bunch of changes and twists: Gil’s and Mimi’s marriage in trouble, the return of Keri and Jami, Keri considering herself gender fluid and being at odds with her mother, the antagonistic newbie coach, Mimi’s mother terminally ill … and ringing in little tidbits like reminding people that Gil is an amateur pilot. Fair enough. Right there, you’ve got plenty of plot to carry through a season.
But it just keeps on coming and keeps on coming in waves, and it’s dizzying even for those who remember people and incidents from past years. Mel coming back, her kid being trans, Keri’s little love triangle (square?), the strip focusing on volleyball for the season, peacock mascots, it just doesn’t stop. This strip’s demographic — heck, the demographic for newspaper comic strips generally — isn’t in youngsters for whom a slow day involves liking and replying to only a few dozen random TikTok posts. What comes after school shooters, Keri proposing an orgy to all her suitors?
I can see Dr. Pearl clutching the classic chrome microphone, this is a drill. Repeat, this is a drill. So we can expect a mass shooter segment. Bobby Howry? Uncle Gary? Koy Nash? Ransom Hale?

P-2: Gil tries to discover what page the class is on, when the school PA announces a new type of tool for Shop class.

The Milford, OH Eagles did all the drilling at Turpin last night to close the regular season with a smoking 56-21 win. The Eagles finish at 8-2 overall, 7-2, and good for outright third in the Valley (aka Eastern Cincinnati Conference). No, it isn’t second in the Valley, but hey, it’s not fourth. More importantly the Eagles locked up the number seven seed in the ultra competitive Division 1, Region 4 state playoff bracket. Hope burns bright for Milford state championship aspirations as two seven seeds have won the Division 1 title in the last seven years. See you all next week at the playoff game at Milford!
On board with all these comments. I’m awaiting the other shoe to drop…Henry is either going to write himself in as the new full time French teacher or active shooter. 55 years of loyalty to the Thorps and then this???
Okay next week during the school shooting a police will take down the shooter and the students will arrange a protest because the shooter was injured by an over zealous police officer
