You’re right on that yyyguy; one would be better-off waiting for the Nano to hit US shores (there are plans for it) than to buy a smart-car.
Nano, with 2-cylinder petrol engine can get city-fuel economy of about 75 mpg and can hold EITHER of the following combinations:
(*) four passengers and a grip (there is a small, designated, luggage-space which is somewhat larger than a glovebox)
(*) two passengers and two duffle-bags

aren’t smart cars smaller? (since they won’t fit 2 people and even 1 golf bag. i looked into buying one the last time i got a new car.)
