I usually get a minor case of laryngitis once a year. Other than having no voice, I would feel fine. When I worked in a department store years ago, I kept a note pad in my smock pocket for such times. One day, using my notepad I helped a couple. Later, I had to go up front for something & I saw the couple at the service desk. I heard them say how they appreciated how the store hired the handicapped. The manager said that, while they would not be against hiring someone disabled, we didn’t currently have anyone on staff at the moment. They answered, “What about that little mute girl in automotive?” They seemed to disappointed to discover that my limitation was temporary!
Like I said… little kids are carriers of disease. They get the sniffles and slight fever, adults get deathly ill. They have very strong immune systems.
Dentists in Canada, where this strip takes place, do not go to medical school. They get an undergraduate degree then go to dental school. It’s very competitive getting into dental schools there, so they are very competent.
I remember in the past when I was same shape as Elly, I had to go to work as I was PT worst Receptionist for Government office, I could hardly talk, then at home if I was asked questions I wrote down my answer, I would not speak. At work boss heard how I sounded and would not send me home. Yes what I had spread, though I had no fever. I had box of Kleenex and did what I could to cover my face.

Took awhile to figure out she wanted to write something

First time we have seen John act like he is actual doctor. It’s kind of refreshing for a change to see him appear like he is competent.

This is why everyone should at least learn how to finger spell.

Typical Elly. She only wanted to scream and is unable to do – so frustrating!

When one has laryngytis it is good if you previously learned how to write in onomatopoeia in school! ( Learning the King’s English – blah!)

It appears she’s trying to communicate… Looks like she’s upset, but it’s hard to tell.

No coincidence that Elly is an anagram of the word “yell”.

I would love an opportunity to lay in bed and not talk to anyone!

I know the frustration of laryngitis. There are times when I wanted to write exactly what Elly did.

OMG. John enjoy it while you can. It won’t last long and believe me Elle will be sure to make up for lost time. After all she is a woman. :-)
